Adding a bending gauge

Post by Willdamnit »

I wanting to add a bending gauge. I've 3d printed a part I've started designing I've looked for something similar but all my searches came up with external gauges which what I'm not looking for. I use a digital gauge but I'd like to add one either side for quick bends.
Thanks any help or insight would be appreciated.

Pretty cool. Would be slick if you could 3d print the numbers for the angles into that part. Could then use a white paint marker to highlight the numbers.

I'm currently working on the model in fusion. I'm 3d printing it with an indicator and number when I have a working concept I'll make the frame from metal then make the dial 3d printed.

This is one that might work for your application with a few modifications.

Here is the step file you can download from my Google Drive. Fusion 360 will open this file directly for editing, printing, etc.

Create a cable device that will let you see the degrees of bend by viewing a wall mounted indicator. Scale the components as desired.

Or use one of these. Mount it where you can see the display.

I use these to keep it SIMPLE.

Mount one to each side of the brake.

If you want to have the numbers printed on the gauge in a different color you can put a pause in the G-code and switch filaments. I did that some time back on a dial I printed. Using the preview in the slicer program to move to the transition of the start of the number print and put a pause there and change the filament color. Resume the printing to complete.

That would be pretty cool, I didn’t realize that was possible!

I think the Starrett magnetic mount gauges are the K.I.S.S. solution.

That is the plan the Bambu p1s paire with an Ams.

That is exactly why I recently purchased the Bambu Labs P1S/AMS combo. It has a feature that allow the top layers (things like numbers, lines, etc.) to be "painted" on. Previously - I would need to split the part into several bodies - one for each color, and then import these bodies separately to my FlashPrint slicer and assign a different color to each body. My Flashforge Creator 3 has dual independent extruders, so one for each color.

My main problem has always been the difficulty in aligning the two bodies for 2-color printing. Supposedly this is much easier to accomplish with the Bambu Labs P1S/AMS using their slicer. I haven't had time to get it set up yet, but do look forward to using it soon.

Here is an example showing the "protractor" I posted above. I still have the same problem with the separate bodies (stl files) not registering correctly when imported to the slicer - so lots of time spent fiddling around getting the numbers and backer aligned.

Hopefully when I get the Bambu Labs P1S up and running, this process will be greatly simplified.

I'm not sure if your aware in Bambu studio you can paint and you won't have to separate these items. Thanks for all the info and the protector files

You'll like the slicer from Bambu you can see it from the Bambu handy app on your phone with a good Internet connection, also you can stop restart or repeat a current file or a past file and the and will be seen in the app.

Yes - I am aware of this. That is one of the main reasons I purchased the new (yet to be used) Bambu Labs P1S AMD. But thanks for reiterating that in case others reading this thread may have missed it.

I very much agree! It's way "cooler" to create your own design that to simply spend the money on a store bought item. It offers a great challenge/learning experience with the knowledge gained useful for applying to other future projects.
