Modified Tube Roller
This is a tube roller I cut this past weekend... I forget who posted the original file, but I got it here.... I saw a similar version that SWAG offroad just started marketing, so I integrated some of what I saw there. This version allows you to change the distance of the bottom rollers without pulling pins and wrestling with rollers and such, they just drop in! Also incorporated the bottle jack feature, and this coming weekend I'll be adding some bits and pieces for the pipe threader attachment.... Will do a bit of powdercoating when it's finished.... Cut from 1/4" pretty heavy! I'll post some pics after it's finished and I have a chance to test it out...

Re: Modified Tube Roller
Got most of the fab work finished on the roller today. Tomorrow I just need to do a little finish welding and drill and tap the mounting holes for the manual crank. Then it's just a matter of disassembly for powdercoating and final assembly. I have a few tweeks to do on the DXF file, but it's pretty close... If anybody's interested let me know and I'll post the file(s)

Thanks for the photo montage. I still have to finish mine. I like the spring location change.

I am also interested in the DXF File. One of the questions I had for Tnbndr that was not answered in his post was this: With this DXF File, do you still have to buy the Harbor Freight roller to use some parts off of it? Or is this a complete roller? Thank you in advance. Steve

Re: Modified Tube Roller
For right now the only parts that are from the original roller is the yolk for the drive roller. To fab that up you would need a 42mm drill bit, or some way to cut our machine an accurate 42mm hole for the bearing. I found one for $135 which is actually pretty good for a bit that size.... Also the drive shaft, and the shafts for the bottom rollers are original, but if you plan to do any kind of rolling on a regular basis, I'd order a set of hardened replacement shafts from Swag, or make your own from hardened rod if you're able to machine the flats for the set screws.... I also located a source for a digital readout so that you will have very accurate repeatability if you need to make multiple parts.... Just take the tension up on the tube, zero the display and Roll to your desired radius, and just keep track of what notches the bottom rollers are in and the reading from the dro and you can go back any time and repeat that part!

Re: Modified Tube Roller
I have a buddy with a mill that I am sure would be able to hook me up. Whenever you have time, or are ready, I would greatly appreciate the DXF files. Also, some measurements on the yolk or maybe a simple line drawing would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Re: Modified Tube Roller
Sorry, I must not have seen that post. If you use this dxf file you do not need any parts from the Harbor freight unless you want the dies. I would save the money and buy the dies from Swag Tools. You can get the shaft and bearings also. One of the questions I had for Tnbndr that was not answered in his post was this: With this DXF File, do you still have to buy the Harbor Freight roller to use some parts off of it

Re: Modified Tube Roller
Tnbndr, I have finally gotten to the point that I am ready to build my tubing roller. I opened your DXF as well as Old Sarges. I do not see the bearing carrier dimensions in either file. Also, I cannot seem to find your original post on here. If you could link me to it, I would appreciate it.tnbndr wrote:Sorry, I must not have seen that post. Re: Modified Tube Roller
I did not build the bearing carrier, I used the one from the Harbor Freight roller that I bought. It is all a moot point now as I sold all my pieces to a member here and he has completed the project. I found an Eagle Roller used that I ended up purchasing.
I cannot find my original post either but it only had the dxf file and a picture.

Re: Modified Tube Roller
I don't think I included the dxf for the upper assembly in my previous post. I cut mine from 1/2" the bearing is I believe 42mm or 1 21/32 which is just a hair over 42mm. I ordered bearings from vbx which are a direct replacement, it was like $20 plus shipping for 10 of them. The hardest part of this build is getting those dang 42mm holes drilled. If you have the right setup it's easy. The next 2 I build I'll be sending to a friend who has a CNC mill to do that part of it.
I'll post the rest of the files when I get a chance to get over to the shop...
I posted that this was going to be one of my last projects, but I'm currently working on a clone/version of a Kmg 2x72 belt grinder.... I have a 2 hp 2 phase motor and a vfd as well. This is going to be an amazing grinder, and I'm trying to get it finished before Christmas.... I'll be turning all the drive, tracking and idler wheels myself. S configured on line this grinder would cost a bit over $3k I figure I'll have about 600 in it. If I can sell a few I might keep things afloat a while.... I'll post pics when I get to that point...
Hope everyone has a great Christmas!

Tube Roller
I have a friend offering a wheel tube roller for near free. Is this something useful in plasma projects? examples?

Once you have a tool you will find a use for it. It depends on the type of projects you have waiting to build.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone have the updated dxf for this roller? Been wanting to make one for a while.
