BRASS PLATE

I have a customer that wants to cut some chickens out of 1/8" brass sheet. I have not done any brass and I was wondering does it mimic copper, stainless or what as far as cutting. any help would be appreciated.

I have never cut brass, but would think you would have to be really careful with the fumes.

It's soft enough it should cut like aluminum, but again, I have never done it. Where are you even going to get 10g brass sheet??

Just curious, I don't even know where to call the even ask.

Alaska Brass and Copper in Seattle has it by the truckload. Just about any brass or copper products you would like they have. Stainless too.

Yes, beware the fumes, it is like welding on galvanized steel due to the zinc in it.

Some one here posted they used a door kick plate for their brass should be easy to find at the box stores if your project is small enough.

A lot of those so-called "brass" kick plates are just brass plated. I found that out the expensive way.

That was me with the brass door kick plate.... Here's the motor data plate that I scribed and cut for the belt grinder.

You do have to read the packaging real close to make sure that what you're buying is actually brass! This is 16g I just used the settings for mild steel, same pierce height as cut height, no delay, and let 'er eat at book numbers, or a tad faster depending on thickness.... Since there's mounting holes on the plate, I drew an 9" line and took a few slices off the end until I got results I liked....

And yes, ventilate like crazy! As with rocks (lapidary) and cutting metal, I've found that burning, cutting or shaping anything that turns green is usually very bad for you!
