Newbie Question

Post by Mustangranch22 »

Forgive me ahead of time for my lack of knowledge. I do not have internet in my garage so I am curious if I purchase or download a file design on my laptop inside my house, can I save it to a flashdrive and then pull the file from my flashdrive on the computer in my garage that is with my plasma table and it wont mess up the file?

That's how I did it for 10 years. In fact when I bought my table the manufacturer recommended that I don't hook the computer to wi-fi or internet as simple updates to windows or drivers could screw things up. Thumb drive back and forth worked fine.

If you are saving g-code to your thumb drive, then you should not have to open it. Just copy the file from your thumb drive to your shop computer and load it into your control software for your table.

Acrobat would normally be used to view pdf files. Your g-code would more likely be a file that could be read with a text editor.

In windows you can use notepad or notepad++ as David said are Text editors. you can look at or edit G-code with them. With notepad++ you can have many open at the same time with tabs on the top with their names to switch between easily to see or compare each. :Like You need to close each individually as they will stay in Notepad++ if you close it as a whole.

Also - Notepad and some of the other editors will not recognize a g-code file as text. If you change your file type to "All files" then it will show up on the list when you try to open it with Notepad, etc.

No need to share your location. We can provide all the help you might need right here at the forum. I personally would not recommend giving out your location and/or address to a stranger on a forum. Just asking for trouble there. Most folks feel the same.
