Design Edge - drawing a simple plate example

Post by adbuch »

Fastyankee wrote: Tue Nov 12, 2024 10:48 am I was trying to do this simple plate.
Operations I need to know .
Draw a square with the direct size input
Same with circles
Radius tool or chamfer
Centering The tab to the center of the line edge
Placing tabs perpendicular to each other with spacing
This simple plate covers the basics in drawing a part .
I also can’t seem to get a part to snap to an edge when I place those tabs on the square I just did it by eye so they are not all the same length.
I did it design edge because I love the trim tool but there so much I need to learn.
I was also having issues with adjusting height of part and didn’t realize you just clicked the part, click control height, and then enter the dimension. I was clicking the part clicking control, and then clicking the part again and it would size the whole thing and I was getting frustrated, so things like that if you don’t do them in the right way, they don’t work right and you need to know that I don’t know that stuff.
I saved screenshots of every thing you posted .
I wish I could a class with the guy in OK.
Andrew - I created a set of screen shots showing one method of using Design Edge to create a drawing for a plate similar to the one in your photo. There are many different methods that could be used, this is how I would do it. Let me know if you have any specific questions about my process.

Here is the actual pcm file I created when I was making these screen shots. You could open it and try to duplicate what I did at each step.

Thanks Dave I'm finding it way easier to draw parts in Ink Scape because it has such great snapping tool and node editing .
I don't know design edge doesn't have a node editing tool well at least the one they do have is terrible and not a true node editing tool.
Thanks

Can you make a video showing these Inkscape features that you enjoy? I would like to comare them to DesignEdge myself!

Andrew - I think that after our phone conversation earlier this evening - you may now have better luck with your snaps, fillets, and such. It just takes a little bit of time to get used to the work flow - it's different than EnRoute, Inkscape, or some of the other cad programs.

It is obvious that Inkscape has a superior note editing capability over design edge. Those are great demonstration videos. I don’t spend a lot of time with Inkscape so I guess it has a lot of features that I am unaware of.
