Desigh Edge offset and snap example

What I find when you import a DKF in to Inkscape it comes in as a px and I convert it to inches. I never had an issue exporting the file from a SVG to a DXF though and I checked the dimensions to make sure it was in Inch and the correct size. The reason I was thinking I had a setting not correct.

Did you purchase and activate the Advanced DesignEdge Upgrade? If not, the task of cleaning up problems is more labor intensive.

I made a simple switch panel today in Inkscape rather than Design edge because I just could not get the scaling done. I was pretty much chasing my tale in Design Edge. The biggest issue I have is the snapping tool when I use it for scaling and measuring it just doesn't seem to put me on the line I'm trying to scale or measure. I than imported it in to Design edge to use the trim tool because Design Edge has a very good trim tool.
I also tried to import a picture of the panel to see if I could just duplicate that and that was a nightmare. I only ned to make the switch panel a little bigger and I ended up having to recreate the whole panel.

Your switch panel.dxf file is not even close to the photograph you posted here.

I am not sure which direction to go!

Do I draw a file that matches the photo? Or do I use your switch panel.dxf file as the starting point?

Help me out. What is the actual X/Y dimension of the rectangular plate? What is the actual diameter of the large hole at the top left position on the plate you want to produce?

DesignEdge can easily draw this panel, but not without accurate dimensions as a guide.

In order to draw this panel correctly, you need to provide dimensions 'a' through 'r'

I will assume this panel screws to another component, so the screw holes MUST match up on both the X and Y dimensions.

I will assume that the components that fit into the six rectangular holes must fit into the holes, and therefore the holes cannot be drawn to match the photo, but must be sized correctly to fit the existing components that will snap into those holes.

I will assume that holes for the components that fit into the one round hole, the two additional shapes with a radius on the top and bottom, and flat vertical sides, and the six round holes with flat tops and bottoms, and radius sides must all fit the existing components that will be inserted into them, as none of these components can be scaled to fit improperly drawn holes.

So all of the dimensions in the attached photo must be known, in order to draw this panel correctly.

The rectangular holes you DREW in your .dxf file are disproportionate to the rectangles in the photograph. Are you going to use different switches in those holes, because the switches that fit into the holes in the photo will not fit into the holes in your .dxf drawing.

Andrew - I think we are getting you squared away with your rectangles and snaps. I realize that the part you drew was not supposed to be exactly like the part you showed in the photo. That was just an example. Like we talked about on the phone, for the center snaps you mouse click just inside the outer perimeter of the circle, rectangle, etc. Or you can click directly on the line, as Robert mentioned. But once you have added those fillets to your rectangles - the center snap will no longer work. What I like to do is to draw a line from midpoint to midpoint of the rectangle, then use the midpoint snap when selecting the rectangle (this will be the center of the rectangle with filleted corners) and then place it to your destination using the appropriate snap.

Dave I appreciate the help. I had to make a bigger switch panel than the black switch panel in the pic. I was trying to draw the dimensions from the existing panel such as switch holes but the plate its self needed to be 5.5 high x 7.75 long to cover an existing hole in the dash.
I couldn't even get the basic shapes drawn in design edge which was very frustrating to the point like I said I ended up drawing it in Inkscape.
I did end up cutting the panel and it came out ok but not perfect. I do have to compare my cut dimensions against my drawn dimensions to see if I need to adjust kerf because the wholes were to small on everything.
