CNC Wood Machine

Post by CNC_rowdy »

I know this is a plasma forum, but does anyone know of a program to run a wood carving machine? I was looking at a Genmitzu. Just a new toy in the garage to play with. Maybe someone has something like this.
Thanks,

I use Vectric software and really like it on my wood cnc router. It is very good and they have a variety of programs to suit your different needs and budget. https://www.vectric.com/

There are many different software packages to CNC wood or other materials like plastics. There are 2 categories to look at, 2-D is basically cutting with no change in depth, X and Y only. And 3-D which is multi level cutting with all axis moving during the cutting action. Programs like Fusion 360, Carbide Creates, and others. I use my table for both, attached image of wood inlay and epoxy inlay of a rose. These are call "V" carved which are 2-D routing.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I just plasma cut at the time. I was just looking to maybe get a low cost router set up to play around with.
Thanks again for directing me to somewhere to start for looking at.

Tim - you should be able to mount a small router onto your go-torch table and do some basic routing/engraving. Very similar to what you are doing with your sharpie pen holder.

You have 2 paths to go with either a standard router or a spindle. Quick and easier one is a standard wood router, I have used a 120 VAC 2.25 HP Porta Cable on a few tables. You can get a 120 VAC (or 220 VAC) spindle but it requires a VFD and maybe water cooling. A spindle speed control can be done with the software and a router is with a dial on the router. I use a Solid state Relay to control the standard router along with the Vac system from the controller with a small switch. Add a router and increase the CNC fun time. :Yay

Tim - for your small 2x2 table, I would be inclined to purchase something like this one.

Dewalt laminate trim router.jpg
Then maybe come up with a simple mounting bracket - I expect it could be 3D printed.
