Pattern problems

I am extremely happy with the software, except for one part. I was following along with the online tutorials, and was trying to make a star inside a circle. I made the circle, made the first line, clicked on the pattern symbol, did all of the references, fill angle and total number of elements, and the OK button is grey. it should have a green check in it. What am i doing wrong??? I proceeded to get away from the video and try everything and combo that I could and the OK button is still grey. Is there a setting or something that I need to change????
