Pricing per break

Post by SomethingMetal »

How do you guys charge per break/bend? I am quoting a job for a simple piece that requires one small bend. The piece is a 4"x1.75" piece that requires a break across the 1.75" piece. The material is .0897" thick and only has to have a 4 degree angle. How do you guys charge per bend? Setup time? Quantity is 400 pcs. Thanks

Just for example..
Based on $75.00 Shop rate:Each minute is 75.00/60 minutes=$1.25/minute.So if it takes you 15 minutes to setup your brake equipment it would be 15 X 1.25=$18.75 for the setup. Now if it takes 30 seconds per bend it would be $75.00/120=.625 or 63 cents per bend.So 400 pieces for bending only not including cutting, deburring, packaging, quality control inspections etc would be $18.75 setup plus $.63 per bend.
On large jobs you may choose to not charge for setup, but supposedly we all want paychecks and the way we get them is selling our labour. Why give it away? Usually, the setup amortized over large quantities adds only a few cents per part . In our example $18.75 divided by 400 pieces is only .046875 or 5 cents per part.
Hope this helps

Just had a thought. I should follow my own advice.
Providing 10 minutes of business counselling which includes written report including accounting @ $150.00 per hour divided by 400 pieces will only add 7 cents per part. Please forward check at your earliest convenience.....
