Post by Catgraphics »

ok guys here is my sitch i am trying to cut a sheet of 1/4 AR plate and am having the cut start fine and go for a wile but then stops cutting through but does not kill the tourch and then starts cutting fine again. i cut the what was supos to be the same stuff 3 weeks a go and cut the hole sheet into 180 parts with one electrode and nozel set with no problems i set up to cut with the same setings as last time but with .5 less ipm because i had some hard dross last time. this is on a powermax1000 and PCS tabel i was runing 60 amps 60 amp tip at 81.5 ipm and 138 arc volts.
thanks in advance

With the 60 amp shielded consumables in the Powermax1000 you should be cutting at 86 inches per minute with the arc voltage set to keep the torch at .060" torch height. Here are some things to look at.

- Check for low inlet air pressure (must be 90 to 135 psi at the rear inlet while the air is flowing)
-Check for moisture in the air.
- Check all consumables.....and replace one at a time until the cut improves. The retaining cap, swirl ring and shield have to be replaced periodically.
-Make sure the oring on the torch body is in place.
-Make sure you are using genuine Hypertherm consumables.

Let me know what consumables you are using....maybe some pics of the used consumables as well as the cut will help.
