How to make text cut-able?

How do you work make text on something 'cut' able, what I mean, is letters like "O" or "D", or "A" that have a 'center' that needs to stay in place. I was able to do this in CAD (HYCAD), but it took me forever, and if I hadn't used the font I had (somewhat 'block' letters), then it would have taken alot longer. There has got to be an easier way... Are there fonts out there that are already 'cut' ready?

I searched, but couldn't find anything.

We use CuttingShop to deal with text dropouts. It has a "bridge" tool that will put a link to the part needing the gap. It may not always line it up like you want but it does place a point at the intersections that allows you to drag the "bridge" around to were you like it.

I may be missing something, but Cutting Shop is over $1000 for the software, correct? WAY more than I want to spend at this point in time, holy smokes!!

We got it as a bundle with we-cim, I did not recall the cost being that high! The basic premise of it is adding that few extra lines in the right (or close to right) spot for you. It can be done manually, but like you said it takes time. It has a weld tool that we use often too, but it's big feature is the raster (jpg) conversion to dxf.

Maybe you could take the text you like, add a small rectangle in the area you want gone then weld it, and save your work in a text file (ttf)? I do this 'on the fly' with whatever text I'm using, and it doesn't take that long to adapt the O's, D's, P's, etc., for cutting.

Try FastCam product it is called FontGen, it is very cheap for what you get out of it. Good little software add on for $99.00!!
