Just received my new Duramax machine torch. I am upgrading from the T-100 hand torch on a Samson 510 with PlasmaCam. With the hand torch I spliced into the purple wire for the arc voltage. The machine torch does not have the purple wire???? Anyone know what I am supposed to hook into???
Thanks
Switching to new Duramax machine torch. No purple wire?

Re: Switching to new Duramax machine torch. No purple wire?
I have to correct myself, the wire I am looking for is the start cut wire not the arc voltage. The hand torch has a trigger that is zip tied on all the time and you connect into the purple wire. The machine torch has no trigger so it has no purple wire. Plasma Cam still needs that signal from the Hypertherm.
Does anyone know where to pick this up from or what to do??
Thanks

You do not mention what plasma cutter...however if you are replacing a T100 torch it likely is a Powermax1650. The start wires (when using the machine torch) are on pins 3 and 4 (they are not polarity specific) of the rear panel machine interface connector. Your Powermax 1650 operators manual has details on the pin locations.
The PlasmaCam start output is a contact closure.....so when connecting to pins 3 and 4...when the start signal is active it simply shorts these two pins together...the torch will fire. If you look closely at the connector....I need a magnifying glass...the pins are numbered.
The mating connector is available at electronic supply stores...it is made by Tyco electronics....I have a few in stock as well. Or you can find some pins at an electronic store that fit the sockets in the connector.

Thanks. I will look in the book. It sounds like I will either short the 2 pins together or hook in the plasma cam interface cable to those 2 pins.

Just a follow up so if anyone else is doing this.
The plasma cam harness that hooked into the puprple trigger wire (black and white) gets unhooked from the trigger wire and plugged into pin 3 and 4 of the connector on the back of the plasma machine (hypertherm). It can also be screwed to the terminal block inside the machine if you follow the wires.

Re: Switching to new Duramax machine torch. No purple wire?
The Hypertherm operators manual has all of the interfacing information (for the machine torch) pretty clearly explained. Not all of the units have an internal terminal block...it is best (and safest) to interface as it was designed to the interface receptacle on the rear panel. The proper cable is available from Hypertherm or from electronics supply houses. If anyone needs part numbers I can provide them.....the same plug is also used on Thermal Dynamics air plasma systems for interfacing.

Jim, I could use the part numbers for interface connector. does the other end have the plug that plugs in to plasmacam. I have a 1250, and dhc2. with duramax machine torch.
