What am I missing?

My PC crashed and I replaced it with an HP laptop. Everything is upgraded; HD, Memory, processor etc.

Loaded up the software update (V 3.05)

I'm trying to 'draw' in some text and it's not working. The window appears, I type in some text and select a font.
When I hit enter, I'm used to seeing the hourglass and eventually, the text.
Now I don't even get the hourglass - just straight back to the cursor pointer.

I've tried different fonts and just single letters.

What am I missing? (Besides the text)

That has happened to me a few times (when I had the old software) I am not sure why. I usually shut down and restarted my computer and then it worked....... see if that works

I should have mentioned that I've gone from Vista to Windows 7.

Bill Gates and his troops are always changing things to 'help me' that wind up messing thngs up even more.

I got the upgrade and installed it with no results.
The Draw/Text still isn't working.

No hourglass, just right back to the cursor arrow.

Any other suggestions?

Are you selecting a True Type font? The fonts with the "@" preceding will not work.
Also, if you have more than 1000 fonts in the Windows font folder you will get random errors.

The test is with my goto font; Oklahoma, and it is a truetype.

None of the dozen or so fonts have worked. This doesn't look like a randon error.

No doubt it is a Windows 7 compatability problem but I've found no solution for it.

Using the text function with my plasmacam software with windows 7 is useless...the only font that will appear when I do as you described is arial....end of story....I have far more fonts, and the ones I normally use anyway, in corel X5...I just open up corel, seelct the font and text I want and save it as a dxf and then import it into my file...what I have done too is just in corel as well, select a few different fonts that I use regularly, type the alphabet and numbers in that font, and save them as dxf files...import in plasmacam, and save as pcm files(really an uneeded step as the dxfs go in fine)...then just import that particular font into the file I am working on, and move it off to the side and copy the letters and move them in where I need...snapping to nodes and orthagonal lets me get them in nice straight lines like I had texted them there, and it really only takes about 10 seconds longer than typing the text in the software itself...

You need the 3.11 software for Windows 7.
The software was mailed to all registered owners last year. Contact Plasmacam directly if you do not have it.

That's what I have.
Just in case, I spoke with customer service since starting this thread and bought another copy of the software after explaining the problem.

We have not been able to duplicate the problem with the fonts that you are describing. It does not happen to everyone so it is some problem with the Windows setup. Until we see a computer with the problem, we can't suggest a fix.

Ah Ha!

I looked into the Windows/Font file and Oklahoma isn't there.
However, when it is selected on the Draw/Text dropdown, it shows the font correctly.

Now what???
