Tip and Electrode burn ups

Post by pitbumpers »

Hello all I have a Hypertherm 85. I have recently switched to using 85 amp consumables and I am experiencing new problems I did not have before when using 65 amp consumables. I have had several tips and electrodes burn up bad. I followed Hypertherm’s guide lines on speeds and amps, but when I watch it burn it seems like it does not pause long enough after piercing and could be clogging the shield and creating this?? Could you look at the g code and see if it looks acceptable

Hard to me to tell from your gcode but you mention you have your speed and amps set to the book but are your piercing and cutting heights correct? I like to confirm this by actually measuring the heights rather than just trusting it will be what I set it to be on my screen.

Do you have a pressure gauge on the back of the machine? Sounds like lack of air to me. Try going to manual set and raise the pressure for a test cut.

Something does not look right on the touch off call in th g code. It should look something like this:
o<touchoff> call (external Touch off from Commandcnc)

The text between the < > is the name of the subroutine its calling. Yours has noting.
There are some other things missing but with no touch off its not going to start at the right height and that WILL burn consumables.

Use the touch off test button int he MANUAL tab . It should go down and STOP . it will not rise up to offset the mechanical sensor (if its not Ohmic) or move to pierce height, but its confirms its working.

Get our DTHCIV Setup and Testing Manual off the website (SUPPORT/MANUALS) and find the INITIAL CUT TEST (about page 85) and set up and run the individual tests. Juts a couple of long straight lines Use your POST to make the cut file .

If that fails (touch off ) then get the latest POST for CommandCNC and SheetCAM (SUPPORT/DOWNLOADS) and run it though that and the tests again/

Also the Z DRO is not getting updated because THAT subroutine is missing so the Z is not tracking all of its moves .
Wont matter too much on really flat material, but we are not dealing with large gaps here wit it cutting at .o60.
I dint think its a delay problem because there is a .5 second pierce delay and at 85A that should be fine. I think it;s more about pierce HEIGHT and initial CUT HEIGHT (before DTHC cuts in in one second after ti moves to cut height.)

Thank you T Caudle, the missing info, would that be a sheetcam issue? Like I said, i did not have these problems with 65amp consumables. Thank you

The POST has ether been changed or corrupted. its missing calls. The only reason you are not having trouble with 65A if you use that same POST is because its less power .Get the post fixed or switch back to 65 consumables

Touch off piercing and initial cut is NOT handled by the DTHC . Its all G-code and you don't have the right G-code
