Finecut vs Regular cutting

Finecut vs Regular cutting
I have a pretty detailed sign coming up, I’m looking at different options for cutting. Kerf between a regular hypertherm 45 amp nozzle and a hypertherm 45amp finecut nozzle isn’t as drastic as I thought it would be. Looks like .055 vs .049. Is it worth designing the piece to work with finecut? Just doesn’t seem like it makes that big of a difference. Is there another perk to finecut that I’m missing?

You did not specify the metal thickness to be cut. The fine cut gives you a much cleaner cut, I do up to 1/8 with mine, some push it to 3/16".

I just finished a cut and delivered it to the customer with the same material or I would take a picture of it for you.. I'd say give it a try just make sure you have the right nozzle and shield.

I normally used FineCuts on steel material 11 ga. and thinner. I'm not sure how you would design a piece specifically for FineCuts. I suppose it might depend on whether you are doing mechanical parts with tight dimensional tolerances or artistic pieces.

For 14 ga. steel, I use Hyperthyerm "book settings" with the exception of cut speed, which I reduce to around 185 - 190 ipm. Also - with new FineCuts, it is recommended to set your cut height to around 0.070" or so for the first several hundred pierces. Then drop back to the standard 0.060" setting.

That’s also great info. I think I’m going to try it for the warping aspect of it and some other smaller details. Appreciate all the help, will definitely apply the .07” cut height for this first go around and see how my table does. Thank you
