Anyone have a decent sprocket generator?

Post by 2strokeforever »

Sprocketeer is great, other than the profile is all messed up and dosent function at all...

I did some searching and couldnt find anything, anyone have something that outputs useable sprockets?

Attached is a proper functional sprocket overlaid on a non functional sprocketeer one.

So far the only way I have found is to download the dxf of mcmaster carr, but that only works if they have your tooth count

I am blocked from seeing most of these sites. I assume that they detect that I am not in North America ?!?

I have been researching how sprockets are calculated...

I can draw a sprocket in DesignEdge. What are your specs?

I know you said you are looking for a program to use to generate sprockets. Design Edge will do it, but it is not a free program. ProtoMax Layout may be just what you are looking for. I have shown more information in my follow-up post.

ProtoMax Layout is free to download. I discovered it several years ago and it is handy for mechanical drawing, auto trace, sprockets, and more.

I always to to McMaster Carr to find the sprocket I want to make and from there you can download the 2D or 3D drawing of that sprocket Check it out here https://www.mcmaster.com/products/sprockets/sprockets~/

found freecad gives a pretty nice shape that is very close to commercial sprockets.
I did have to downsize the cut by 1.5% to get it to work, must be because of the edge angularity and lack of precision of my machine.
Looks like I will have to try protomax once I get some time.
