Layered car club sign

Post by Rootney77 »

I’ve requested some help on some other Facebook groups but not to many people understand what’s needed.

This was a drawing for postered and flyers. They want a layered sign

Large over solid back

Oval ring frame,

Filthies cutout

Bird in 2 layers
Skull

The nuts and fine detail can disappear (shading on bird neck, hair on neck, shadowing gone.

They want it sized to throw in the cars while they drive to shows,
Customs 1960’s and older.

They said 2x3 ft but that seems too small

2 other signs from other clubs are attached

I'm not sure what you are wanting to do. You talk about a large oval and adding some of the elements from the other images you show. Perhaps you could be more specific as to exactly what you want.
Thanks,

If it’s cut single layer it’s very busy so thought layered and more items cut out to add dimension.

Bird outline with a solid back.

Large oval for the back piece

Oval ring so it looks like it’s square tube, with studs off 2” then I’ll weld an outer filler piece to it.

The words are drawn to add 3d so the one picture we just made the Filthies wider and they will have a pin stripe guy high light

The skull I would cut out and use some real wrenches behind it.

Spider webs could be cut separate.

Was thinking 1/4” but weight and size are an issue as they need to drive to shows and haul the sign around.

$100,000 cars so don’t want too cumbersome to damage the cars,

The other pictures were examples of the other clubs but they are simple, not so busy design

The drawing / logo has allot of detail for print and they said that obviously doesn’t need to be included.

The shading by the nuts,( was just gonna get some real nuts and weld to those spots.
The buzzard has shawdoes around the neck and hair that can be deleted as well if the depth is added in layers.

They just said here, make it cool and I’m no good on the Inkscape or AI computer stuff

Yes, this is the logo for the club,
They have only done posters and flyers so they want it made into a car show A frame like the ones above.

Since I have a Cnc machine I got volunteered to do this.

Multiple layers,
The depth and detail for paper can be removed since it will be made with studs.
They will have the club painter do his thing to add detail to the letters and color the bird.

I’m not opposed to pay for the work, but shipping would be the killer, I can’t find anyone local that does the design aspect, and that’s the part I can’t for the life of me figure the programs (Inkscape, AI etc)

Now a printer and cardboard I can get it done ol school,

They have AI and vector files.

If you would care to post (or pm) the vector files, I will have a look and let you know what it would take to modify per your request.

Do you have the file in svg or dxf format? I opened your pdf with CorelDraw, converted to svf and imported to Inkscape. There are many duplicate paths. This is what it looks like.

This might give someone a starting point - something to work with to create the file you are after.

Here's my attempt.
I didn't finish other details on the left side.
5 separate pieces, some of the gaps in the blue layer can possibly be omitted, "shadow" pieces on Filthy can be removed or bridged.
I wouldn't make it out of 1/4", 1/8" max due to weight, this would be good out of 16ga.

The entire design can be done in two layers, OR, if you are not insisting on METAL, you can make it easily with a CNC ROUTER and COLORCORE paneling in the White/Black/White combination.

Geez you guys are good,
It takes me 6 hours to make a turtle and then when I’m done I don’t remember what buttons I pushed to make it do what it did.

I’m a hands on learner, videos don’t do it for me either,

They are set on metal, 16g it too flimsy think the 12g might work, my local supplier is limited, 16g galvanized and cold rolled 4x10 is $80 a sheet, the other supplier wants $180 a sheet.

I tried to talk them into the wood and router and then paint, but they like the metal artsy stuff I make for them.

They spend $30k to lace the roof of the car and then change it every couple years, it’s a different addiction then most.

Is there an easy way to delete the duplicate paths, or is it just a timely click on each one, I just spent a day deleting one path on an item and didn’t zoom in enough to know I was deleting the inside on part and outside on the other.
I’m not patient enough for this computer side of the fab business, I could have traced and made cardboard templates, cut by hand in the time I’ve spent on the smallest garden metal pieces.

When they do embroidery they only use the Filthies and have it all solid, they said they would have the pin stripe guy do the high lights if it was just made like the one I filled in.

I was thinking the 1/4” but stacked it would be crazy heavy, they change up the buzzard but having that layered would be nice and grind for depth.

Sent a dm as well.

If they spend $30k on a car roof, I don't think they would have any problem with buying the steel - regardless of price. I would not recommend galvanized. I would go with the cold rolled steel.

Had a little spot left on a sheet today and wanted to check out the files
Ran the South of heaven piece and cut good but it wanted to do a second cut,
I looked it over and didn’t see 2 paths,
16g galvanized

Got the items bridged and ready to run,
One section cuts perfectly with the 45a sync fine tip but half way in it throws a code.

Attached is the file and screen shot of what the system shows:

Locks out and can’t do anything.

Looks like your using Linux cnc which I have no experience with but I checked out your dxf file and I don;t see any problems with it and it looks AMAZING! Judging by the errors the problem is in the Python code not your design or your gcode. Do you get this error on smaller, simpler designs or just this big one? Hopefully one of the experienced Linux guys here can chime in.
