Hi Everyone!
I recently got hired on as a welding instructor at my local community college and our shop has a fairly new JD squared table with the pipe attachment. I have zero experience with plasma tables so I'll be using the forum to try and get up to speed to work with the students on the table. I'm coming out of welding in the field so having a shop with goodies like this is a strange experience!

Re: New College instructor
Welcome aboard Boomguy! Hopefully that JD2 table came with some manuals showing how to setup and use the table. Or maybe even an instructional video. If it has a "self-contained" software program - then perhaps you can do your drawing, cut path creation, and g-code creation all with a single program. If not, the you would use something like Inkscape, AutoCad, etc. to create your drawings. Then perhaps SheetCam to create your cut paths and g-code, and finally import your g-code to your JD2 control program for cutting.
Keep us posted as you progress and be sure to ask any questions and we will try to help.

Welcome Boomguy554! Your at the right place, plenty of knowledge and helpful people here. I find your best to start out slow, leave the plasma off and learn the controls of the machine by doing dry runs on files you create or download from here. Once you feel comfortable start cutting simple straight lines and then move on to more complex cut from there. Best of luck and keep us posted.

You know, you can contact JD SQUARED and set up a time to go visit them for training on their tables. I believe that offer one-day or two-day training on the software and the table operation. I could be wrong.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll get in touch with JD and see what they can offer for training on their specific program. I will definitely be doing dry runs before turning it on. I've got machining experience so I understand the importance of making sure that you don't crash while running a machine.
