Solid Body from Sketch

Post by adbuch »

Tom - I watched your video. Your sketch does not go away, it is just not visible. You can turn it back on to see it superimposed on your solid body. Then you can extrude your round bosses (to different heights if you like) and lastly do an extruded cut for the holes.

Thanks for the reply will check it out. Like many things you skip things while learning, best to ask an "Expert" and learn. Like the guy said the more you do thing the better you learn. I watched the series and it is a good starting point.

Fusion360 is a powerful drawing program! I use Google SketchUp for this stuff. It has the same basic functions. You just need to learn to use the tools...

I just export this drawing to my 3D printer and let it go!

Tom - that turned out great! It's very easy once you get the hang of it. I know that some of the woodworkers use Sketchup for some basic layouts, but for true parametric modeling programs like Fusion 360, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, or SolidEdge 3D are the way to go.

It seems that it is easier to do the 2-D sizing and positioning of the items. The tool control is quicker then the other CAD program I used. And the 3-D modeling is easier to work with too. :Like :Like :Like :Yay With them being combined is a big plus.

Tom - some would say it's the "hot setup". Also - that parametric modeling is a huge plus should you need to go back and make changes to your design. No need to start over and draw again from scratch.

A good example would be the pipe cut flat patterns example I showed previously. Here it is again in case you missed it.
