Baileigh 5X10 Plasma Table issues.

Post by Moosejaw »

I purchased this table used and am experiencing several problems.

1) when moving the gantry, it seems that the one side is not being powered, the AC servo motor appears to be going along for the ride. The side cover shielding the Panasonic servo motor has been removed and several m5x.7 fasteners were left of indicating someones been in there.
The belt is tight. Ordered a new servo motor hope that cures the issue.
(ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED)

2) The torch height control appears to net be working, thinking of replacing the entire system.

(ANY RECOMMENDATIONS ON NEW UNITS?)

if they are the same you could have swapped the motor in question to the known good driver and see if it owuld move it. Might have saved you the cost.
Maybe if you got it cheap enough you can afford to replace the whole controller and software. If its a Starfire control and the HD THC you may get to see why you got it used.

You should check the wiring in the back of the control panel. We have one of these at work and some of the wires were loose where they terminate on the driver. Also, Tom’s suggestion is also good to check while you’re there. Another great suggestion from Tom is to just replace all of the junk electronics on the table.

Motor replacement fixed the gantry issue. Still torch not starting.
Thinking of just replacing the entire Z axis. Suggestions on system to link with my Starfire would be appreciated.

Torch height controller is not working? Or your torch is not firing when it’s called to fire?

Both, I can move up and down manually but it won’t fire. When I start the machine it just drives into the material.
Torch won’t fire even manually.

Does the red light appear on the screen indicating that it is calling for the torch to fire?

We had this issue one time and it was bad grounding. Your cutting table (the frame that holds the slats) is a separate piece from the actual table with gantry. If your table is built the way ours is you have a ground bus on the side of the table where all of your ground wires attach. Take a wire from there and ground the frame of your cutting table (the frame that holds the slats). That should fix your ohmic sensing.

Ok back from the south, took height control out of panel, totally burnt. Pins connecting torch to control were burnt, one totally off.
Time for new unit but not sure what to get.
Starfire main control.
Help before I buy something I regret

If you stick with that Starfire Control you options are limited . That THC has a motor driver (stepper) builtin and is pretty much standalone .
Depending on how handy you are you can replace the Starfire with a new control head that uses US software and g-code and continue to use the existing Motor drivers and motors, but it takes some wire tracing and mapping of signals. The THC will have to have a new driver for its stepper. Biggest issue is all of the switches and table connections and figuring out the Chinese name versus the English name (function).

The other option is to replace the whole controller and THC . A lot depends on what kind of motors (servo ro Stepper) they decided to use that day on that table.

I ordered hp105 torch controler, all ports in the back are just like the old unit. Talked to parts guy at Baileigh, they have a replacement unit for the fried unit $2800. I believe that i will be able to interface this unit with the starfire controler. They sell the entire package with my current startfire unit and the HP105 in what they are using.

Bet it feels good to be back in the shop! Hopefully the new controller will get you a functioning THC, let us know how it interfaces and works once it shows up. Best of luck :Like

No I purchased a hp105 to replace the box that was in my machine. , not available unless I want to buy from OEM at $2800.
I will retrofit with hp105 around $200
Dealing with china sucks. Purchased used unit from company in USA , yea not smart but want this paper weight up and running.
Have one new on slow boat from China.
