2d to 3d conversion

hi guys,
i was wondering if someone might be able to convert a 2d dxf to a 3d fusion drawing for me to show a customer.
I have been trying to teach myself as i go but I'm struggling with time.
Appreciate your help.

Hi David,
here is the file. it is a square firepit, so I'd like to show the customer the image all put together.
It will be made from 3mm sheet.

That was extruded. I was able to work out extrusion with taper and create shell but that's a far as I got

Thanks for the tip! I had not used the tapered extrusion before - but if you can calculate the correct angles it works great! This one is not the correct dimension - but I was just trying out the tapered extrusion. I probably shouldn't have created a single body, as when I did the "Shell" operation it took out the floor where the holes would go. To me the hardest part is getting the imported dxf of the horse and cows in the correct location on the side of the fire pit. I did discover that if I figure out where to put a reference point on the sketch, then that makes it easy to move/copy from point to point.

I drew the bottom plate first then taper extruded up and down, then created the shells. I already had the angles from the original 2d Qcad drawing. Not sure if that's the right process but it worked for me.
I have the profile in another dxf that i imported and dragged close to where i wanted it and extruded that, again I'm not sure if that's the right process however it got the job done.

This looks fantastic!! Thanks for your tip on the tapered extrude operation.

Yes - it goes pretty quick if you only have to taper extrude and shell. The dxf profile is what takes all the time and causes me problems with Fusion 360 hanging or shutting down. I'll bet those with the paid subscriptions get to run on a better server with much faster processing.

It almost makes me want to go back to SolidWorks, which I have a perpetual license for and does not depend on the internet. But Fusion 360 is so much simpler to use to accomplish the same things, plus it will export the solid model for 3D printing - which SolidWorks won't do by itself.

Update: I discovered that Fusion 360 on my computer was set to work offline. I think this happened last weekend when they said they would be offline for maintenance. Somehow my setting never went back to Working Online. So now it seems to be working with the imported dxf just fine. That's a relief - I really wasn't looking forward to revisiting Solid Works.

I have become proficient with Qcad but sometimes i want to give customers a look at the image in 3d so they can get a better understanding of the finished product.
Unlike us we can visualize the finished product.
At the end of the day, it is another tool at our disposal to get ahead of the competition and something I need to be able to do for myself.

Very much agreed! The more tools the better. As Tom has said in the past, it if quite often a combination of 2 or 3 or more programs to achieve the final result. No single program that I am aware of can do it all.
