Offsetting a circle

Post by Skidmore »

Could someone point me in the right direction to how to offset a circle from a line. I need to put 4 .5” circles in the corner of a square for some bolts.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thank you. It is just a simple video "short" to explain the process.

Draw your square, draw your circle and center snap to the corner of the square. Or if you have the capability - use the array tool. Also many other useful techniques here:

I followed your instructions exactly, David. Why didn't it work like in the video above?

Those are some funny looking bolt holes. Personally, I would draw a square and then offset the lines towards the inside the distance I want the center of the holes to be from the edge. Then draw the circles centered at the intersections of the new lines. Then delete the lines.
I think having the holes fully in the square would be more sturdy.

I guess we just can't color outside of the lines. :Sad

For uniform placement, offset and node snap are great. You can also draw in reference lines that intersect at hole centers and use intersection snap for the bolt hole centers. Many ways to accomplish it, all hinging around learning and using available snaps in conjunction with one another.
