welding fixture table top
Finished up the fixture/welding table top ! Used 5/8 steel cut it out on plasma table . Its 32 x 44 with 77 5/8 holes on 4 inch centers , I sealed edges of plate with masons flex self stick flashing then soaked in 50/50 muriatic over night to loosen mill scale .,It rinsed almost clean then flap wheeled . Tacked 1 1/2 square tube on back and set it on shop table (with tractor) . So far its working good still making some clamps and other tools for it .

Great looking fixture table. Have always wanted one but I can't afford it so would have to do something like that. Pretty slick

Looks pretty sweet. Post up pics of the clamps that you come up with>
I was thinking of purchasing a mag drill to make one. Since I didn’t want to chance burning one on my 45xp plasma cutter. But a little thinner , maybe .375 or even .25”

I did borrow a mag drill , and used a annular cutter, worked great ! Bit was cutting the same on last hole as it did on the first .tinspark wrote: Fri Mar 29, 2024 5:17 pm Looks pretty sweet. Post up pics of the clamps that you come up with>

This is first clamp , made it out of a couple 5/8 bolts , a 3/4 nut ,3-1/2 nuts and some 1/2 all thread and one 5/8 id bore shaft collar,it was pretty easy , swivel foot is a 1/2 inch nut with all but one thread drilled out and a washer , had to grind small ball on end of all thread leaving a couple of threads on sides , then welded nut to washer with thread turned up, screwed it on to ball and works great , does not fall off .

I saw your clamp setup and it made me wonder why you chose the oversized slider nut instead of another set/shaft collar above the lower stop set collar. I assume that the slop is needed in the oversized slider nut so that it grabs instead of pulling the pin out due to too much vertical lift without enough bind instead of a lateral bind that might occur with the oversized nut? Or........? hmmmmm
I haven't made a fixture clamp before, but am I close??

Re: welding fixture table top
Doug - I think you are correct in your assumption. Here are several of mine. Part of the force applied at 1 is transferred to 2, causing the pin to bind in the table hole and prevent lift.tinspark wrote: Tue Apr 02, 2024 12:16 am

Yep need the slop to lock in , the horizontal rod is canted down slightly as well as the nut for all thread, so force is aprox. straight down .

Re: welding fixture table top
I assume you have it mounted for cutting and not just to hold it in between use? In any case, a nice looking bracket.

You are correct . Wanted to have a way to cut small stock , the horizontal bandsaw is too big for somethings .adbuch wrote: Sun May 12, 2024 7:39 pm I assume you have it mounted for cutting and not just to hold it in between use? In any case, a nice looking bracket.

Re: welding fixture table top
I used a lever setup to hold the trigger down, with a quick release when done cutting.

Wow! that is beautiful , It looks like your band saw is permanently mounted ? I was trying to make it easy to remove for hand held use .Do you have it plugged into a foot switch ?acourtjester wrote: Mon May 13, 2024 9:18 am I used a lever setup to hold the trigger down, with a quick release when done cutting.![]()

Re: welding fixture table top
No foot switch and it was a full permanently mounted saw, I made 2 one for me and my daughter. They can be used either horizontal or vertically.

Very nice Tom! You say "Band saw type 1" and "Band saw type 2". What is the difference between the two types? Do you have a set of plans you would care to share for your setup?
Thanks,
David
