Hey Tom, have you had success with this nesting tool? I just tried it and it was taking so long I just gave up.

I went to the link that Tom posted, and at the bottom of the page it had a link to the newer version called Deepnest, which has been around for a few years now since I remember testing it out probably 4 or 5 years ago.

The download link is:
https://deepnest.io/

I think it works best if you use svg files for input. Then after nesting you can export as svg or dxf. If you export as svg, you will need to edit the saved file to add the "svg" extension. Same for the dxf version.

Here is an example to show how it works.

David

Create your file with the parts you want to nest and the sheet you want to nest them onto. In this case I used Inkscape and saved as svg.

Import your svg file to Deepnest. Then select all, check the large part as "Sheet", and enter the quantity you want for each part.

Set your part spacing, bounding box configuration, units, etc.

It will run thru several iterations to find the best result. When see one you like, click on "Stop Nest".

Here I have exported as svg and imported the result back into my original Inkscape file and positioned the nest on top of the original sheet.
