F360 How to make curved profile 2d to cut

Post by ARironworks »

Hey- I have this gate I made in fusion, and I want to take top profile of the curved piece, make it flat, so i can make into a a dxf.
I'm talking the piece you would see if looking at it top down. I've already successfully extracted the side profile of the curved piece .We can't bend 2x4 pipe so we'll put cut the side curves and top and bottom piece separately, bend the top/bottom piece, and weld it to make the curved pipe.

I'm not sure if there is a way to do this. I tried the hack of recreating the top profile in sheet metal, with an added flat extrusion so i could 'unfold' it (as described in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwwP2hQ586I
), but it didn't work. Would give me a warning that there is no bends connected to the flat piece.

Anyone know of a way I can make flat pattern of a curved piece that actually takes into account the length of the curve? Physically unrolling it instead of projecting it onto a flat plane, which would distort the full length.

Should just need to know the length of the entity (poly line or spline) on the top edge. Not sure if the software shows this or not.
If it is made of many entities, just add the lengths together.

Thanks guys, I ended up going with your method of measuring the line length and making a the appropriate size rectangle in torchmate. Originally I didn't want to do this because I was trying to include the spaced squares where the pickets meet the bottom of the curved piece, but it seem like that's impossible.
