105 on a converter?
Does anyone have experience running a 105 on a phase converter? I have a 40 hp, FLA 112/56 converter but Hypertherm advises against it probably because people try to run underpowered converters. I can run 3 phase welders all day on it it but I don't want to damage a brand new plasma.

Your machine - Your gamble..
I got a good deal on my 105 because the guy moved into a new shop without 3 ph.

I run my Hypertherm Powermax 85 from my American Rotary 30HP CNC rotary phase converter and it works fine. The phase converter is on a dedicated 100 amp circuit.

David,
Just curios why you didn't use the single phase option with the 85?
On 240 / 3 ph the 105 requires a 90 amp breaker so It would take an even bigger one with the rotary phase converter..

Re: 105 on a converter?
I already had the rotary phase converter installed to power the cnc machining centers and cnc turning centers in my machine shop. It was more convenient to wire the 85 up as 3 phase than to install an additional dedicated circuit. I discussed using the rotary phase converter with Jim Colt and he said it would be fine, even though the manual discourages the use of phase converters with the Hypertherm cutters.

Got it thanks for the reply.
I have a 1250 80 amp which is the predecessor to the 85, I went with that unit over the 1650 as I was working out of 2 differently wired shops at the time.

Thank you for the info. This will help with deciding which unit to go with as my new plasma table will be delivered in a couple weeks!!
