Z Axis wants to continue downward - Wright CNC
Hey PS community
Having something happen to my cutting that's never happened before, randomly my z axis when touching off of material doesn't do it and keeps wanting to go downward. I have to hit the emergency stop on my Wright CNC to stop it.
I've unplugged all cables and used different versions of Mach 3 and still does the same thing, I'm using Sheetcam as well with the newest update.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: Z Axis wants to continue downward
If you are using a floating head switch it may be flakey or if you are using a Ohmic sensor there may be crud on the torch tip so it does not make contact with the metal to complete the signal. Simply look at the diagnostic page to see what error you have. If floating head you should get a home/limit error and Ohmic sensor you should get a Probe error.

I'm having this same exact issue! I didn't think it could the actual switch since in the diagnostic section it was showing up when i manually activated the switch by hand

also i forgot to add that my issue only happens at the end of the cut during the lead out when the torch turns off. during the cut, the thc will perform normally and move the torch up and down. the glitch happens randomly but always happens during the leadout when the torch turns off and then dives down. if i leave the THC off everything performs flawlessly.

Ditch the lead out's if you can, if you can't you will want to lock the THC out on lead out's same as you would on a small hole or sharp corner. Not very many instances where a lead out would be beneficial anyway. What are you cutting mainly? Thick plate or thinner gauge metal?

I was able to find the culprit: in mill options in the THC section, I had “enable THC control even if not in THC mode” checked. I believe this option is for people using oxy torches.

So I was cutting some stuff out before and I still have issues haha. Upgrading to a new computer with a UC100 has been fun. So the proma 150 is working and sending signals but Mach3 is ignoring those signals. Z axis if def staying stationary during cuts even though up/down signals are coming from THC.

Re: Z Axis wants to continue downward - Wright CNC
Have you checked the input signals from the Proma to the BOB board. You should be able see then on the diagnostic page when running the test function on the Proma. I think if you make the HTS voltage large enough the Z should move up/down with the signal changes. Signals should cycle through up/down/ arcOK when in the tst mode, seen on the diagnostic page. I hope you bought the UC100 from the correct dealer as some don't work
I bought my UC400ETH from https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.c ... e/cncdrive and have had no problems I hear the ones from Amazon or eBay do not work.

I bought the uc100 directly from cncdrive to avoid any fakes! Also I have tried the test function on the proma150 and it makes the torch move and all signals are showing up in the diagnostic page of mach3! Very confused lol it must be some setting I’m missing here.

Ok if the Proma works with you controller then you need to look for the correct Post Processor to generate the G-code that works the THC and you'll be there.

I’m using the latest sheetcam post processor that Wright cnc had supplied, THC was working just fine before the desktop they supplied died and I had to switch to a UC100 and a dell laptop I had laying around.

Re: Z Axis wants to continue downward - Wright CNC
The UCCNC unit needs a Plug in to be installed under the Config then plugin menu. UCCNC requires a different post processor.

I believe you must have the thc enabled on the mill page for Mach to see proma
