Put the pieces together

Post by dixo0118 »

So I bought a little plasma table from the company I work for but it has been disassembled and sitting for a little while and the few dudes that disassembled it have since moved on. I am trying to put all the pieces together and I've almost got it but ran into a couple issues. First off, its a BandB Systems plasma table that is build in Idaho and ill be running a Hypertherm Powermax 85 on the table. The table has a THC301d torch height controller and that is the part I'm getting stuck on. I have the board in the picture finally hooked up right and the one set of wires coming out of it runs to the cpc port in the back of the plasma but what do the other wires run to? The black and red have that spade screw connector on it but the green and black set looks like whatever connector there has been ripped off. Where do these wires connect to?

Im sure this wont be the end of the trouble but we are getting close.
Thanks

Yeah, I have. The guy is a lot of help but I am having a hard time following what he is explaining over the phone and I am not great with describing electrical components. I am getting the feeling that he is going to stop answering my calls soon.

which cable is the one without the connectors?

the bottom (right hand side) one in the image goes to the plasma cutter to read the voltage between the torch (-) and the table clamp (+)

the green and black will have one spade connector same as the other wire.

the white does not appear connected at all and I suspect that it is to the plasma cutter chassis earth connection point (NOT the table clamp!!!). the earth bolt in the plasma cutter on its case

In the picture just showing the wires, the green/black set is missing a connector. The white/black isnt used so should be clipped short. The guy from B and B told me the same thing you said but I was hoping to be a little more clear as to where those screw to. He said that it doesnt matter which goes to the table clamp and which goes to the torch but I'm still unsure of where to screw them(red/black and green/black) to on the plasma cutter.

Thanks for your help

You should be able to hook all of those to the cpc port. You have tip volts from the internal divider. (If you want raw arc volts then you will have to get that inside.)
You have the torch fire connections and the arc ok connections.
If you look in the Hypertherm manual it should show a pi out of the cpc.

Edit:. Looking at your board it appears that the one section is a divider, so you will probably have to feed it raw arc volts. There is probably a post on the forum showing where to access this inside your powermax.

That is what I am thinking too since I only have 5 pins on the CPC cable and I think I only use 4 of them (2 arc ok and 2 torch fire). So I would think that it is bypassing the internal divider since there isnt a connection for it so I would have to get raw voltage right?

PDF Manual attached, may be of help to someone else looking for info on the THC300 or THC301 Torch height controller which was one of the early ones into the market
