5x10 build.

Post by jones8907 »

Yup sold my last table time to start on this.

Details
- precision plasma gantry
- table design is loosely a combination of the precision plasma and star labs cause I like the 4x4 and my ideas
- rotary
- oxy acetylene
- downdraft just to try it out since I had water on the last build.
- z is one I sourced off precision plasma
- electronics....I am actually going to try and build the entire package. If I fail. I'm cool with that I'll just

I'll be keep my instagram stories updated on end_iron_ and when I get to my actual computer I'll upload photos that are not 4-5mb each.

Sweet! I think I’m about to build my own when I get a little bit of time. What motors and gear box ratios are you going with?

That looks like it will be a pretty heavy duty build. Looks great so far.

@leeroy6392 I picked up https://www.candcnc.net/store-home/620oz-motor/

@adbuch yeah I am hoping to be able to do a slew of things on this table....or I'll just sell it and build another.

Coming to the point where I like the challenge of both operating and building them.

Levels are plumber's tools. Use a square. Much more accurate.

Levels insure parallel surfaces. Check square with 3,4,5 movement checks.

A level is a level, and a square is a square. They are used to accomplish two separately different tasks.
Ideally the table should be both level and square.

I'm not talking about squaring the gantry. I mean in general fabrication, squares are much more accurate than levels. Levels certainly don't insure parallel surfaces. They will get you in the ball park but they are not exact. For example if you stand up two members using a level they will not be parallel. With proper use of a couple of squares you can get them dead nuts.

I use levels, squares, and many other tools for "general fabrication". The results generally depend on the skill level of the person using the tools. And of course on the quality of the tools being used.

You all see the fireball tool squares right?

Yeah I have no idea why we are talking about levels or square. But thanks for the info I appreciate it.

I tried to upload a video of it running. BUT on my instagram I keep the stories updated so once its happening I slap it on there.

Last night I installed all the gear racking and cut off the 3inch excess on each side.

Got a load of 1/8 angle iron just now from DIllion supply too to cut up and make my spacing between my slats. (left overs from a job basically.

Whats everyone doing for slat spacing distance 3-4 inches looks like a good number. Id rather go 4-5 thoughts?

Mine are about 4" to 5" apart I have them arranged on a slight curved to keep tension so they don't flop around. having tip up is the main concern with spacing, sizing of the parts affects the angle of what may stick up for the torch to hit. With the 8' I tried to have an S shape for the slates.
The image shows a pin on either side of the slates I now only use 1 pin, easier to remove and install.

The curve also helps when cutting straight lines. If you happen to end up cutting on top of a slat at least you aren't cutting the slat the whole distance.
