Angled cuts on one side

Post by AZ_guy »

I have a Shop Sabre table and I love it, everything works excellent and it’s a breeze to use. Only issue I’m having is theat the cuts are angled on one side, it seems to do it all the time but it’s really noticeable on 1\4” or thicker material. It seems if I change the direction of the cut the angled side changes. I was thinking that it was just how plasma cutter cut because the definition isn’t as like a laser but I don’t see anyone else having cuts angled like this on thick material. The torch is perpendicular to the table, consumables are new. I’m not sure what could be causing it. If the torch was angled a little in its mounting I don’t see how it would only be angled on one side.

If this is a Hypertherm torch you may have a "O" ring problem that is causing the plasma stream to be off to one side. If this is what is wrong also buy the lub for the "O" ring which helps them last longer. Or the swirl ring could also give you a problem. But this it changing sides with direction these may not be your problem, but something to check.

Yea it’s a hypertherm 45xp, I’ll check the swirl ring. I have an extra so I can swap it out. I didn’t know they sold a lube for it. Any idea what they recommend using?

I use silicone grease, also sold as dielectric grease in auto parts stores.

O bought a small tube from Hypertherm some time back, I think the part number is 027055. I don't think I paid that much from them.

The little bit of grease on that o ring did the trick. Don’t think I ever would have found that, thanks!

I posted it up on my Instagram just mentioning it and I’m definitely not the only one having that issue.

There is another "O" ring on the torch to seal the retaining cup, this can also cause a problem

Thanks, I just grease that one also. Cut quality is night and day better. Here’s the before and after

I've been getting this too but it also comes with a very rough edge on the bevel and not on the entire edge, just a short distance anywhere between less than an inch to 3 inches long sometimes. Also got a Shopsabre sidekick cutting 14ga.
