Need advice on finish for outdoor aluminum signs

Post by Johnstone »

I'm fixing to do my first outdoor aluminum signs and would appreciate some advice.
They will be single layer cut from .125" Aluminum. The customer would like them to be painted matte black. Any considerations regarding surface prep? Is there a special primer I should use to promote adhesion of the top coat? Thanks!

I clean with a auto body type wax and grease remover and a rag, sandblast the material, blow clean with compressed air (don't wipe with rag or fuzz will stick to your part) and paint. Never had a problem and the finish is tough and very resistant to chipping.
