gentec athlete vs multicam

Post by wcgrady »

hello i was hoping someone here could share an opinion. im looking at a gentec athlete and multicam cnc plasma. the gentec uses a kaliburn plasma and i dont know yet about the multicam. i went to see the gentch operate and was impressed but i have no comparison. i have been waiting on the multicam sales rep for about three weeks. the gentech sales rep was in my shop the day after i called, but his machine is considerably more expensive. any help would be appreciated

I am not familiar with the gentec, but I tried to talk to the Multicam guys last year and same thing for respnse time----it was weeks before they called me back. My thought was if they can't get back to me in weeks to TAKE my money, what happens when I have a problem? I ended up with a Koike Monograph from a comany nearby (Koike-Aronson in Arcade NY) and they were very good to work with. After looking at a lot of the other machines and pricing, this had a ton more features included and seemed to be much more of an industrial unit than some of the other "hobby types" and had all the features built in such as hole speed control, height control, nesting features, 5 x 10 enclosed downdraft table etc. When I looked at a lot of the others and added that in it was close to the same money for less of a machine. If you are still shopping give them a call or feel free to call me and ask questions.

I have a knock off of multi cam and it is the best as far as how well built the table is. what number of table are you looking at? depending on where you are at i have a phone for the midwest office at multi cam.

MultiCam uses Hypertherm plasma systems exclusively. They also offer a full line of cnc plasma machines from low cost entry level machines to high end, high definition class industrial machines. If you PM me your contact information I'd be happy to pass it on to the MultiCam rep...to ensure they get in contact with you.

I own a Multicam and had good luck with there sales and tech support. call Multicam and ask for Ken Rock, he was my salesman and was always very prompt.

We have a Multicam 1000 table with the Hypertherm 1250. Works great. Tech support has been good. We have the Shop Data Software package they sold us. It works great on square or round fittings and such as its designed primarily for duct work applications. If you are going to get into more ornate or intricate stuff, you will have to learn how to "finesse" the software to make it do what you want. It works pretty good but I am sure there is more art friendly software you can get.
