Plasmacam Replacement Cutting Grate DXF File

Post by plascutart »

Hi,
Has anyone got a dxf drawing for "the grate" (set of 16 slats) for the plasmacam DHC2 4x4 table.
I would prefer to cut my own as the freight to Australia is enormous.
thanks,
plascutart.

New 4x4 PlasmaCam Table

Post by Wesley Nichols »

......This is my first file sharing post, so hope this all works.... I just cut out a new table for my Plasma Cam. I made the bad mistake of waiting too long before I replaced it, and had some trouble getting my 14ga sheet to lay flat enough so I could cut it out.... that's how toasted my old table was. Anyways.... If you have a table like this one, I would recommend cutting out a new table before your old one gets too bad. Here's a few tips... and with the downloaded file, you should have a new table for the price of a 4x8 sheet of 14ga mild steel. Cheaper than new.

This is already converted to a cut path.... sorry... but the kerf width was set at 20 thou... If your tip's cutting close to the same, you should be good.

I ran 100 inches per minute with a Hypertherm 1000... 40amp fine cut tip..... did a beautiful job.

You will need 16 strips, they will all come out of one 4x8 sheet of 14ga IF you cut 12 pieces out diagonally, and then tack the top triangle onto the bottom traingle.. cut it out, then weld it as needed. You'll see what I mean.

Hope this works as good for you as it did for me.. I drew it up in the plasmacam program... so that's how you'll need to open it... it's not DXF.

I downloaded the dXf file in this thread and added more points to it. I did not rotate it back into the angled position to make it fit on the sheet in the machine. I have re uploaded the file on this reply. It is my first upload of a dxf so I hope it works. I did not modify the size or shape of the part so it should still fit ok but make one and check first, your offset can change the fit a lot so check before making a bunch.

Ron - how did you make out cutting this set of grates? How well did they fit? We'd love to see some photo if you have them completed and installed.
Thanks,
David

John,

Couldn't we modify it just a bit more, to make al of the POINTS individually replaceable when they are damaged? We can slip the edge guards in to align sheets, so why couldn't we also make all of the grate points individually replaceable?

Not sure how you would do that Joe. May just be easier to tack weld a small piece onto the grate to replace a burned up point.

I am drawing a grate file now. I will upload it when I have checked it for errors.

Essentially, I will remove the grate points altogether, and replace them with the same slots used for the edge guides. Small individual grate points can then be inserted and replaced as needed on an individual basis, just like you move the edge guides from one slat to another. Get a box of 100 of them and keep them handy, and you will always be able to replace torched grate points one at a time, as needed.

I have them drawn, but I want to go measure the existing grates on both my Samson 510 and my 4x4 tables to make sure I have the dimensions right, and not just dementia!

"If I could save time in a bottle ...." As I get older, I realize that my enemy is TIME. I have so many things I want to do, and so little time, and so little energy to do them.

I just let a NICE Samson 510 table go yesterday. It was up for auction in Commiefornia. A 510 table, a Hypertherm 105 plasma cutter and the PC, a downdraft system, etc. The DesignEdge license only had basic design and basic height control. It all sold for only $1,950.00 I was going to bid on it, but I have so many other 'YUGE expenses coming up, so I let it go. The road trip to the Left coast to go get it would add $3,000.00 to the cost. :Sad
