Ohmic fine cut shield 220948

Post by Metriccar »

Is this a part that "wears out?" Only thing I could see is crud getting on the bottom of it. I was cutting with fine cut on 11 ga metal when cut quality suddenly deteriorated. I replaced the electrode and nozzle. No difference. I grounded the crud off the bottom of the shied. No difference. It wasnt cutting all the way theough in some areas. I put 45 amp consumables in and it started cutting fine again. The only thing old on the fine cut setup was the shield.

In our experience, we have to replace the shield after wearing down about eight electrode + nozzle sets. We rarely use Finecut parts; that's for the standard 45/65/85s.

I have been using the same Finecut shield on my Powermax85 for over 3-1/2 years. No sign of wear. The critical things on the shields are the bleed holes cannot be plugged and that the center hole is perfectly round. I clean the shield periodically with a scotchbrite pad. The shields used with the standard shielded consumables are subjected to higher power levels as well as thicker piercing. If proper pierce techniques (as outlined in the operators manual) are followed, then these shields can last nearly as long as the Finecut shields.
