The real reason is what looks like the THC is crimped onto the retaining cap and cap looks to have a cut out where crimp band is. Any insight on how to remove THC and re-installing THC on retaining cap that does not have the cut out for band?? Did not see anything in manual for this issue.

The crimped band is for ohmic plate sensing. :o

The crimped band on the retaining cap is not a THC, it is the wire spade terminal connection for the ohmic contact....which is used on some machines to sense the surface of the material being cut.....in order to calibrate the pierce height and cut height. If your system has a THC (torch height control) the THC takes over after the cut starts and adjusts the torch to work distance using arc voltage feedback.

I suggest reading the operators manual for proper consumables, how to change them, how to inspect them, etc. If you have any questions...I'm always available to help out.

Thank U Jim as always. Wasnt sure what is was for, my concern is if I take of the crimp band Im not sure how to re attach the band, plus the retaining cap that came with torch is different from the replacement that also came with torch. The original one has area that is cut out for band, replacement one does not. Will take pics and post tomorrow.

If you look in the cut chart and consumables area of your operators manual you will see that there are two retaining caps. One with the band, and (do not take off the band...there is no reason to) which can be used for ohmic contact machines, and one without. Both caps are exactly the same internally and cut exactly the same and fit all combinations of consumables. The only difference is one allows the use of the ohmic contact circuitry on some cnc machine....you can use this same cap on machines that don't have that capability. Here is a section from the manual showing the mechanized consumables and there is mention that the two retaining caps are interchangeable.
