Jim, need some input from you . . . and anyone else who has some solid experience with a down drafted 4X8 table.
I'm here to ask a question related to downdraft.
From reading several post in different forums I understand you run & prefer downdraft over a water table.
I have to admit I do not like the water table method from what I have seen.
S, do you simply exhaust out the back of your shop?
Do you exhaust straight out, turn up or turn down.
What do most of the small FAB Shops do?
Trying to do some layout and planning to be able bring a machine home.
I'm thinking a Grainger 7K369 for a fan. (3506 CFM @ 2" static pressure)
Will I cover my shop exterior with soot, my neighbors, etc.?
Of course this soot/dust would be created by a Hypertherm PowerMAX 85.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Currently looking at TRACKER & Dynatorch - both in a down draft configuration . . . .
Thanks in advance . . .
Steve

Re: Jim Colt . . .
I use a 3200 cfm restaurant style (louvers that close on the outside of the wall when off) fan that is ducted with three 8' galvanized pipes out the side of the table, then up about 7 feet and a 6 foot horizantal run directly to the fan inlet.
It is a 4 x 4 table...and I never have any smoke or soot issues.
You may need a little more flow for a 4 x 8 table....unless you keep the top covered well with metal.
