PowerMax 85

Post by CNCCAJUN »

Currently narrowed down to a TRACKER PRO TABLE with a HYPERTHERM PowerMAX 85.

Downdraft for dust elimination & cleaner cuts, not a water table . . .

That means my lowest setting is now 25amps.

Can I cut 26 gauge or 28 gauge on a machine with direct drive stepper motors?

Anyone doing it now?

Steve the manual shows a lower limit of 26GA but that is at 45amp. If Jim Colt has his ears on he might explain if cutting 28GA is advisable. You bring up another good point, on my PM65 I can turn the amps down to 20 but the cut sheets don't show settings below 45 amps. What exactly can I do with the range from 45 to 20 besides etching?

As far as the steppers goes I don't think the type of motor matters for thickness. The critical issue is the quality of your height control. Craig Johnson
