Cleaning large pieces for copper fx??
Hey guys I want to clean/prep a large scene for copper fx treatment. However the part is too big to submerge. What can I do to clean the scene up to get he mill scale off. I thought about just laying in the driveway and re applying the concrete cleaner until the mill scale started to wipe off. Anyone have any experience doing larger items?

You don't need to submerge the part in acid to remove the mill scale, you just need to keep it wet with it. I spray hydochloric acid diluted about 3 :1 with water and spray with a pressurised garden sprayer which has all plastic components and keep it wet for about 10 minutes and it will just hose off. If you get any heavy or stubborn areas just go over them again or use a brush to agitate it.
If you end up with some rusty spots with stop / stating just mist it again with the sprayer, hose off and dry.
I think one of Bills demo videos shows him doing it by spraying.

Thank for the reply. I cut a 2x 4 ft decorative scene that took 35 mind to cut. So I wanted to be sure I was prepping it right and not wasting time and materials by doing "tests". I'll get a pump sprayer today and give it a whirl. Thank you for your input, you are always a very helpful and informative member on here. Much appreciated.

For me, it is a lot more cost effective to just buy the cold roll steel....no mill scale to deal with, and it doesn't cost that much more than hot roll. My 2?

Cold roll does run a bit more than hot roll buy why not just use hot roll P&O (pickled and oiled)? It's really not much cost different than regular HR and you don't have to mess with all that scale and the acid mess.

I used CR this week for the first time. No more acid for me. As soon as use up the rest of my HR, I won't go back. So nice to cut, sand and powder coat all in the same day. Save time and energy. CR is the only way to go in my opinion.
