Anybody running one of these on 1 phase power? May be getting one soon and I was wondering what I could expect performance wise running it on single phase.
Thanks

Re: Hypertherm 1650
as long as you have the amps for it .and it is wired for single phase .
and have amps to run everything else you need to run .
there should be no problem

Re: Hypertherm 1650
The 1650 is a three phase machine. You might be able to run one using a rotary converter but I imagine it would have to be a good sized one.

Re: Hypertherm 1650
I thought I saw where it can be run on either or? So this machine is a 3 phase machine only?

Bought my 7hp converter off Craigslist. There's several on there. It was "like new", American made for $400.

Re: Hypertherm 1650
The 1650 is a 3 phase only machine. It could be operated off a phase converter, however because of the inrush current required by plasma cutters you would need a phase converter that was rated for 2x the input amperage required by the 1650, and this is inefficient and often expensive. The Hypertherm Powermax1250 (80 amps output) and Powermax85 are both capable of operating on either single or three phase input power.

Re: Hypertherm 1650
Thanks Jim. I have contacted the power company and I going to see if I can get three phase to the house if not I will more than likely sell the 1650. I currently run the PM65 but I may upgrade to the PM85 to help with duty cycle and thicker items. Thanks for all the input!
