patina both sides of something

I'm getting ready to do some railing inserts for my cabin and wanting to use steel-f/x on both sides. I'm looking to get a similar look on both sides. Is this possible? If so can anyone offer any tips. I have not attempted it yet but I noticed when i apply a patina to one side the back is also effected from run off and not sure if it would be possible to make both sides look similar because of this. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you

First off, I have not tried this.

My take would be to patina one side, then clear coat it. then re sand the other side and patina then clear.

I am not sure if the patina will effect the clear coat or not. Try a small sample.

That's the only idea I have came up with so far but was going to tape one side do the patina and clear coat the tape the finished side and do the opposite side. Was just wanting to make sure there wasn't an easier way to do it. Thanks for the reply

That is the best way & the patinas will have no effect on the clear-coat.

You're welcome! For smaller pieces, dipping works great for doing both sides at once. Dipping would be tough on
large pieces, though.
