I have been using my machine for about a year and a half with no problems. It is starting to make a humming noice now. Do I need to take the cover off and blow everything clean. I have not had to do anything to it. I did try to blow the vents on the side clean, there was a build up of dust. My machine is not in the same room with the plasma cutter anymore, so there should not be as much dust moving around as before.
I just want to address the issue beefore it be comes a problem. I have alot of cutting to do this time of year and can not afford for it to go out.
Thanks,

Re: Hypertherm 65- Starting to make noice
I would suggest contacting Hypertherm tech service and describing the noise to them. They work with customers every day, and with about 10,000 Powermax65's in the field they may have had thius same complaint before. I would probably be inclined to pull the cover off and power the unit up.....remember that there is some very high voltage inside....and try to determine where the noise is coming from.

I really think it is the fan making the noise. I will attempt to take the cover off and see if it is.

Re: Hypertherm 65- Starting to make noice
The fan is thermostatically controlled.....so it only runs when it needs to. My Powermax85 fan occasionally comes on when the unit is setting at idle in my shop....on a hot day. That is absolutely normal.
Now if it is noisier than a fan should be....it is possible that something has cause the fan blades to hit the shroud...or maybe there is some built up shop dust creating a drag or noise. All issues that you can see if you remove the cover and take a look.
