increase?
Looking into making my cut outs more attractive( i believe this is it) how much % wise do you see the value of your work increase? If I currently sell a unpainted piece for $40.00 how much should I go up? thanks

Re: increase?
$5.00 a square foot. Add a clear coat for 50% more. And don't forget the back side.
That's the going rate for powder coating in most markets.
It's not the cost of powder that goes on the piece, but the powder that goes out of the gun.

Re: increase?
If I sell a piece of bare steel, 12awg., dross removed, clean enough to eat off, I charge $35.00 per sq. ft. of material used.
For instance, an 18" X 36" oval, fairly simple design would fetch $150.00 plus shipping. (4.5 SF X $35 SF approx.)
If I do the same exact piece with a patina and/or dyed finish & clear-coated with automotive clear, it would sell easily
for $295.00 plus shipping.
Double side patina projects (which are rare except for railing panel inserts) are bare steel price multiplied by approx. 2.5X.
Example: Bare steel railing insert, 28"-30" high X 72" wide, 3/16" plate, Gap-Code Compliant, would go out of my shop at $825.00 plus crating & shipping. My crating charges are usually around $100 (up to 4 panels) & freight averages about $1.00 per pound.
The same panel, patinated on both sides would not leave my shop for less than $2,200.00. The packaging protocol changes for finished pieces that are to be crated. They are individually foam wrapped (1/8" closed cell foam), sandwiched between two slabs of double-wall (DW) cardboard & heavily taped with 3.5 mil X 3" wide tape. Then, they are crated & shipped via ODFL, which gives me the best rates.
The information above is a thumbnail overview & some of my 3D pieces go for way more than described above.
And some of my railing panel inserts are discounted up to 15% for orders of 50 lineal feet or more per order.
Hope that gives you some good ideas. If you have any questions, let me know.
I'd much rather sell one piece at a $1,000 than a hundred pieces at $10. That's my philosophy on it. And, the tire-kickers will always try to get 'something for nothing'. Send 'em to eBay.
thanks,
Bill
