powermax600

Post by kbenz »

Has anyone had theirs just quit? won't power up or nothing. has power through the switch. have already replaced it with a pm65 but would like to have the 600 for hand cutting. nearest service is over 60 miles away. hate to drive all the way there drop it off. find out its too expensive to fix and have to go get it. Any clue to what it might be or cost?

I know this might sound stupid but anyways:
1. Is the breaker tripped?
2. Is the correct voltage being supplied to the plasma cutter?

After that I would follow the service manuals troubleshooting guide...

If you are good with electrical / electronics troubleshooting then download the service manual from www.hypertherm.com pull the cover off the 600, blow out the dust and give it a good internal inspection. The sysmptoms could indicate a few different failures, but without poking around and trouble shooting you would just be speculating. It could be a loose wire connection which could be repaired for a few dollars, or it could be a main board, which could be $1000. In my opinion the Powermax600 is worth repairing....it is a great performing plasma and you could not replace its cutting capability for less than about $1800 with a new machine.

Local guy troubleshot it. main board. $630.00 for the board. He can't install it though, he's not certified through hypertherm so they won't warranty the board. closest tech is an hour away , this sucks :(

I'm not sure how a Powermax600 would still be under warranty, but if it is go to a local dealer and have them order the board, using the serial number of your system (if it is still in warranty) then have your local guy install it.....which won't be covered, however the boards in a 600 can be installed in less than 1/2 hour.

hey Jim,
the machine itself is not under warranty. the board itself has a one year warranty which would be voided if he installed it(correct?) If we are wrong please let me know. that is what he understood hypertherm to tell him. Thanks

I am not aware of that policy. As long as it is installed correctly the warranty stands.

Is there a way you could verify this and give me a name of someone for him to speak to when he calls them back? If you can't thats ok. I'm just not sure what else to do without making two trips to Kernersville.

thanks jim

I sent an email to our team to verify this. I am not an expert on the warranty policy on replacement parts...so we'll get the correct answer! Your local guy can download the service manual from the www.hypertherm.com website which has details on troubleshooting and replacing boards. It is not very difficult.
I'll get back when I have an answer.
