Trading for a thermal dynamic
I think it's time to trade my hypertherm 85 in for a thermal dynamic A120, I'm on my 2nd plasma unit and 3rd torch in 9 months. getting real sick of not knowing when its gonna cut and not cut, is anyone else having problem with there 85? any comments would be great. Today hypertherm tech support told me to reduce the cut speed from 120 to 75 and it should cut.

Re: Trading for a thermal dynamic
Maybe you can provide me some detail as to the issues you are having. Always happy to help out. Just saying you are trading and have had issues will not help me and the other readers on this site understand the real problems. In 36 years with Hypertherm I have rearely found an issue that could not be resolved to the satisfaction of the end user.
-Please give a brief definition of the issues you have had. Power supply failures? Cut quality issues? Consumable life issues?
-What is the application? Type of cutting machine, height control? What general thickness range are you cutting?
- When the Hypertherm tech service dept asked you to reduce the speed.....some details would help me. What amperage and type (shielded or unshielded) consumables were you running and at what specs on whant material and thickness? What was the issue that was reported to tech service?
Posting the details will help all of us understand the situation....and it is entirely possible that someone has had similar issues and can help point you to a solution. There are around 40,000 of he Powermax65/85 products out in the field. These are among the most relaible, well accepted plasma cutters in the world....lets not give up on yours!

Re: Trading for a thermal dynamic
Jim,
It's on a dyna torch table, I m using 45 amp fine cut shielded. I'm cutting 12 ga at the book specs, the only conceren i got is the Cut quality and one second it will cut fine and than it won't cut all the way through. Than sometimes it will cut out the whole part just fine, The dealer i bought it from is no help either as i m the only customer he has running a system like this. I had a 1650 for years and loved it so not sure why we have had so many trouble with this one. I can e mail you some pictures if you would like jim.

Send pics to jim.colt@hypertherm.com , be happy to help out.
The FineCut consumables by nature are very touchy to height, to speed and to air pressure settings. I only use them on 12 gauge and thinner....as I prefer the 45 amps shielded process. When I want the best edge quality and a narrower kerf...I will use the FineCut parts.
