Post by kbenz »

I've been using acad since r13 came out. currently still running 97(old) I've never used anything else. How hard will it be for me to convert to corel? is it totally diff or are there similarities?

I have used Corel since ver. 3.0 (now using X5) and only dabbled in Acad a little. I would think that Corel would be much easier to use than Acad. The commands and general functions/layout will be hard to get use to at first, but I would say it is a much simpler and cut down version of Acad. You should be able to pick up on it quite easily.

Having used Draftsight (supposedly and Autocad clone) and Coreldraw, I'd describe Coreldraw as completely different but easier.

I wouldn't say you could "convert" to Coreldraw, more like add Coreldraw to your arsenel of cad weapons. I often use my "mechanical" cad software together with Coreldraw, but just one or the other would certainly restrict my abilities.

Be sure to get the full version, not acedemic or any other. If you don't get the full version you may not get CorelTRACE with it which is fantastic for converting bitmap images and easilly creating dxf files from them. Autocad is great for mechanical design however you will learn to love Corel for it's flexability when doing artistic type designs, text based designs, as well as mechanical designs.
