Hello I hope you all can help or give me an idea I am running a powermax 1250 cutting 1?. #1 Can I pierce it at 80 a or should I drill the pierce point? #2 how much peirce/cut should I get out of a tip and shield?

I also run a PM1250. I wanna say the 1250 can only pierce upto 5/8 and do an edge start on 3/4. But ive done 1" from an edge start @ around 11ipm and 80amps. I got a pretty good cut. But still had bevel.

definitely cannot piece with 80. edge start or drill a hole first, if you cant make a leadin at the edge

The 1250 is advertised to pierce 5/8"....so to do 1" you should edge start....the edge of a drilled hole works the same as an edge start. If you upgrade the 1250 to the newer ytechnology Duramax torch...then you can pierce 3/4" without issue.
If you pierce 5/8" at the recommended pierce height and pierce delay time (from the mechanized cut charts in the operators manual) you will get at least 300 pierces without damage to the shield or nozzle (there is not a "tip")
