Powermax 1250

Post by plain ol Bill »

Jim I seem to have developed a problem cutting 3/8 plate. I am using 60 amp consumables in good condition. Pierce delay is .8 and piercing appears good. Edge quality of the cut is very good, corners are great, I'm using parameters straight out of the manual. My parts are not cutting completely on the end of the cut. There is a tiny area not cut completely through so my parts are not falling out. I have used arc, and straight lead ins/outs .25 long and get the same results. I think I am having yet another senior moment here Jim. What do you reccomend I try to remedy this?

Bill,

I've also got a 1250 and have a problem like this. I've using a Duramax machine torch though.

On most cnc machines and software for plasma there is a function called delay at end of cut. It is used to keep the plasma arc on for a time period after the motion stops....this allows the bottom of the arc (which lags the top by 5 to 10 degrees) to "catch up" and complete the cut.

The other thing that can do this is a slight loss of cutting air pressure (bad torch o-ring) or a worn retaining cap or swirl ring. These cause changes in air flow that will reduce the arc energy density...causing the arc to lag as well.

Jim and Beefy thank both of you for your advice. I will start by replacing the O ring. All the other consumables are either new or very close to new. After thinking about both of your suggestions I tend to lean toward a problem in consumables as I have cut 3/8 previously with good clean cuts at the end and the parts fell out of the parent metal without problem.
