Help with auto cad 2004

I am new to cutting and have been using an older version to scale and edit dxf files. I think I'm getting a pretty good idea for what I need it for. I was wonder if there was a way to import images or files that are not dxf files to trace and make dxf

you can typically drag and drop images into autocad and then scale them to suit. I usually change the color of my line to magenta or some other easily seen color that way you can see what you have traced as you go.

Also go to the Insert Menu, Raster Image File and select any image file to import. I do as Stillworking and change to a color that I can see as a trace an image. You can trace using lines, arcs, circles, etc. The software I use won't recognize polylines or splines so I stay away althought they would be easier and faster to use. You can also use the "sketch" command to free trace or draw. It takes a little playing around to get used to and you need to set your segments large enough or you get a real choppy cut.
