venting the table?

Post by jim fry »

I have CNC Tracker 5x10 table. I'm looking at a few different ways to build vents into the table so i can exhaust all the gases out side. Has anyone here build a exhaust set up into there table? If so any pictures and how well does it work? thanks :D

I have the solution to venting if you can convert your table to a water table you can eliminate 98% of your smoke or fumes and you hardly even need an exhaust fan its true.

I'm considering turning my Tracker Nitro ino a water table (the dust is making a mess of my shop not to mention my lungs) I sketched something up real fast in Corel and was hoping to get some input. Is 6" deep enough or should I make it deeper and should I position the drain hole in the middle of the tray or on the side and lastly I was wondering how far from the torch should I mount this so I don't trap any gases and have an explosion at my shop.

Thanks

If you need ideas or a place to look at water tables go to www.cnczone.com. There is a ton of info under cnc plasma project. When I built my table this is where I dug up the answers to my questions.

You can even find out how to make homebrew plasma quench.

My trays are built from 14 guage. I wouldn't worry too much about the drains, guys are claiming their water lasts years if you plasma quench it. I use the homemade plasmaquench recipe from cnc zone. I bought the sodium nitrite and physan 20 off ebay for next to nothing. My trays are 4" deep, 6" is probably overkill.

Depth of the water is not nearly as important as getting the water to the elevation of the top or your slats. The closer you get the water to your material the better the water table is going to work for you. If the water kisses the back of the material (or real close anyway) it greatly reduces plasma dust and also is a gigantic help in controlling warpage from heat.

Dumb question??

Post by parrotlady »

Hi all,

I have been using a plasma table at a local shop here, and now, as a starting point, I want to buy my own handheld torch.. My question is, will I require an elaborate ventilation system for this? I imagine I would as a torch is a torch, the only thing missing is the computerized component.. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

Thanks!

Parrotlady I don't really understand your question. Are you wanting to do manual work using a hand torch or do you want to use a hand torch with a CNC machine? For manual work I would just wear a respirator and cut away. If you are wondering about a CNC machine you CAN use a hand torch with them but I reccomend a machine torch for CNC use.

Thanks Bill. Yes, you answered my question.. I just want to cut manually with a handheld torch, and I didnt know if I needed to have a ventilation system for this.

Thanks!
