Any Opinions on Hypertherm Max 80 Plasma Cutter?

Post by prattswelding »

I'm looking at a max 80 plasma cutter that a guy has for $1000.00 I just wondered if anyone had any input or experience with this particular model. I'm looking for something that can cut 1". I currently have a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52 and half inch is about as thick as I can cut. I tried a bolt hole layout last week on some 5/8" and the holes cut horribly at a setting of 3 ipm.

Manufacturing on the Max80 ended in December of 1993...so it is fairly old. It uses a high frequency start torch...the same torch used on the older Max100. Torches and consumables are still available...however circuit boards and other internal parts are no longer produced. The unit operates on single phase power...and is rated to pierce 5/8" and edge start on 1" materials.

It has similar power to the current Powermax65 in Hypertherm's lineup.
